Pˇ¤Gauguin(1848-1903) was born in Paris ¨C the "Art Capital". He, together with Vincent Van Gogh, was the famous representative painter for "post impressionism" in art history. The most moving thing Pˇ¤Gauguin ¨C a master of legends did was that in March 1891 he left his rich profession and worldly happiness, with his weariness of civilized society and his longing for primitive & wild society as well as tropic flavor of south pacific ocean region, he went to a French-owned island ¨C Tahiti located between Hawaii & New Zealand. This was for his pursuing of the ideal art kingdom in his heart. He lived with local people on that island. He freely described the myths and natural life of Maori People with his paintings which strongly show the character of egoism manifestation. His best paintings were produced then. At the same time, he wrote the famous novel <Noa Noa> recording the mysterious adventures in Tahiti island.In his later years, he made one of his most important representative drawing - <Where are we from? Who are we? Where are we going?>. Since the 20th century, the re-acknowledge of primitive arts become popular and it has brought new energy for art development. Pˇ¤Gauguin was even one of the pioneers. He had strong objective feeling. His color-rich works have affected a lot of artists after him and have created incomparable courage as well as joys for human beings. |
